Caritas Nigeria Team on a working tour of project sites in the Northeast paid a courtesy visit to the local ordinary of Yola Diocese, Most Revd. Stephen Dami Mamza.

The visiting team which was drawn from select project staff of Caritas Nigeria working in the Northeast as well as the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria had undertaken the visit to help the management familiarize herself with some of the projects in the region, connect with beneficiaries, and improve staff knowledge on Catholic social teaching.

Nkese Maria Udongwo, Director of Humanitarian Services flanked by Fr Isaac Dugu and Fr Obodoechina during the courtesy visitSpeaking on behalf of the organization, Caritas Nigeria’s Executive Secretary and CEO, Revd. Fr. Uchechukwu Obodoechina who led the delegation appreciated his Lordship for his support to Caritas Nigeria and her numerous past and ongoing project interventions made possible through the support of other development partners. In addition, Fr. Obodoechina acknowledged the fraternal support to the existing relationship between Caritas Nigeria and her diocesan structure, the Justice Development and Peace Commission (JDPC). He used the opportunity to introduce the new Deputy Executive Secretary of the Organisation Revd. Fr. Peter Babangida Audu to his Lordship.

In response, the Catholic Bishop thanked Caritas Nigeria for the visit. He acknowledged the numerous interventions implemented by Caritas Nigeria and her partners in Yola Diocese and promised to continue supporting the organization. He also called for improved communication between Caritas and the diocesan structures for better outcomes.

 The team visited ongoing project sites such as Government Girls Secondary School, Vimtim where there was the distribution of Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs- funded dignity kits to the students; the Skills Acquisition Centre in Mubi Local Government constructed by Caritas Nigeria under the UNHCR Livelihoods project; and the IDP camp in Yola where ruminants were distributed to beneficiaries.
