The Nutrition component of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Project (Norwegian MFA) which strives to eliminate malnutrition in vulnerable children between 6 months and 5 years through screening and nutritional rehabilitation received a boost in the Gwaski community, Hawul LGA of Borno State.

Caritas Nigeria Team under the Norwegian MFA project identified and screened 4-year-old Hyellazira, who presented with Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM). On presentation, she weighed 9kg, with a mid-upper arm circumference of 11.7cm. Accordingly, the little girl was administered needed therapeutic services.

A re-evaluation of Hyellazira’s condition after eight weeks in admission revealed significant progress. While she weighed 13kg, her mid-upper arm circumference read 13.5 cm.

Before her discharge from the MAM program, a healthy food demonstration was organized to enlighten baby Hyellazira’s caregiver on how to utilize locally available resources to prepare nutritious meals for her. In addition, a major portion of daily energy and protein requirements were provided for the reinvigorated young one.

“We sincerely thank the Norwegian MFA, Caritas Norway and Caritas Nigeria for extending this humanitarian support to our daughter, and our community,” her parents said, beaming with smiles.
