Inter-faith Platform for FBO Response

Caritas Nigeria has won another position of honour by emerging as the first Secretariat for the Working Group of the newly reactivated Inter-faith HIV Care and Treatment Response Group in Nigeria.

This occurred at a meeting of Faith-based (FBO) stakeholders which held on Thursday 16th November, 2017 in Abuja. The meeting was facilitated by NACA with technical support from UNAIDS.

A key outcome from the event was the constitution of a Working Group which will is expectd to metamaorpose into the official coordination bOdy (to be registered and incorporated Trustee) for Interfaith HIV response in Nigeria. The working group consists of 7 Christian organizations 7 muslim organizations, and 1 interfaith organization (INERELA + Nigeria), with Caritas Nigeria serving as the secretariat for the new born body.

Proceedings from the first meeting of the secretariat - which comes up within two weeks - will feed into the upcoming National Consultation (a follow-up to the regional consultation on Pediatric HIV that took place in in June, 2017 in Abuja), and will be hosted by UNAIDS, Caritas Internationalis andPEPFAR.

The communique from the meeting which was signed by all participants will be disseminated by NACA while continuing to provide technical support to the Working Group Secretariat.

Caritas Nigeria was represented by its Deputy Executive Secretary, Fr. Uche Obodechina, Dr. Callistus Akinleye, Winifred Stanis Ezeobi and Dr. Wale Fadare.
