Escalating the Message of Gender-Based Violence Prevention in Edo State
Together with staff and students of Paulsen Foundation Schools and Explicit Royal Academy in Uhunmwonde local government area of Benin City, Caritas Nigeria, under UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency-supported Mixed Movement activities, marked Day 4 of 16 days of activism in Edo State.
During the sensitization sessions, the students demonstrated their basic understanding of gender-based violence (GBV). Our team, thereafter, shared insights into the forms of Gender Based violence, its impact on women and girls, and practical mitigation measures.
Buttressing the theme of this year's International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, women and girls were encouraged to equip themselves mentally and invest in self-development. Likewise, the availability of resources for the education and empowerment of women was cited as a practical approach to reducing incidences of GBV. The students were further urged to desist from bullying, break the culture of silence, and report perpetrators.
