The Orphans and Vulnerable Children's (OVC) intervention currently implemented by Caritas Nigeria under The U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and CDC-funded ACCESS project has empowered 18 more adolescents in Abia State with vocational skills.
Recently, 5 government Community Primary Schools across Aba South, Ohafia, Osisioma, Umuahia South, and Ugwunabo local government areas (LGA) of Abia State were profiled for the educational grant, during which 155 out-of-school children, who were made vulnerable by HIV, as well as others from indigent households, were identified for re-enrollment in school.
In a recent development, Caritas Nigeria, in collaboration with the Justice Development and Peace Commission (JDPC) of Orlu Diocese, has restored joy to the pupils of Central Primary School, Eziachi in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo state.
With the commencement of FY24 in October 2023, it was expedient for the units to discuss mechanisms for meeting project goals in the second year of the comprehensive HIV prevention, care, and treatment intervention funded by The U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through CDC, while also addressing some challenges encountered in Year 1, including the delayed arrival of products due to government policies/processes, with a view to enhancing patient outcomes.
Towards building staff capacity for effective Program implementation and performance management activities, the Caritas Nigeria Management Team of the Accelerated Control of HIV Epidemic and Sustainability Solutions (ACCESS) project, organized a 5-day retreat and Budget Development Review Meetings from 30th October to 4 November 2023 in Enugu State.
Caritas Nigeria Chief of Party and Principal Investigator, Dr. Oko. John Okpanachi, with a delegation of HQ staff, State Team Leads, of Abia, Imo, Enugu, and other staff in the state held a two-day workshop in Enugu State from 8th to 9th November 2023 with the Executive Officers of Community-based Organizations (CBOs).

To enhance the expertise of linkage, retention, and tracking assistants, the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and U.S. CDC Nigeria-funded ACCESS project in Imo State, Caritas Nigeria conducted a 4-day training for representatives of community-based organizations, the Imo State Agency for the Control of AIDS (SACA), and the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) from March 13-16, 2024.
